In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful
I’ve not been blogging lately and this is because of a disease called ‘procrastination’.
“In psychology, procrastination refers to the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of lower priority, or doing something from which one derives enjoyment, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time.”
According to Sigmund Freud, humans tend to procrastinate as they want to avoid negative emotions and prefer handing off a stressful task until a further date is enjoyable.
Look at the bolded phrase. it could be rephrased as ‘Doing something from which brings less enjoyment’. A job has less enjoyment when there is a job that is more enjoyable, such as watching television (some coffee shop talk show), gossiping etc.
But do we really enjoy those things, or are they ‘coated’ with enjoyment by the coating expert, Shaithaan the Accursed?
Allah Almighty has said
“[Iblees] said, “My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all; Except, among them, Your chosen servants.” 15:39-40
According to those who have tasted the sweetness of Iman, the ‘enjoyment’ in this world is nothing.
So, where do our priorities lie, in this temporary dunya, or in the eternal Akhirah? In Syaithaan the Despicable, Arrogant, Treacherous, Spiteful, Accursed…and the horrifyingly bad and evil list goes on; or in Allah Almighty, Our Beloved Creator, The Most Merciful, The Most Gracious, The Forgiving, The Loving, The Gentle, The Compassionate, The Kind, The Sustainer…and many other great and amazing attributes?
We have to fight this so called ‘enjoyment’ in dunya so as to achieve real enjoyment in both worlds.
Allah Almighty said
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.” 2:216
Allah Almighty knows that prayer, fasting, preaching Islam is good and enjoyable for us humans if done the right way. The only problem is Syaithaan the Accursed. He has vowed to make us humans astray, except the Chosen Ones, who are the Sincere and Devoted towards Allah Almighty.
To be sincere to Allah, we must first be sincere to ourselves. Ask ourselves: “Why am I doing this? What do I hope to achieve?” and never ever lie to ourselves and make excuses for ourselves to ourselves such as ‘I am busy right now’ and ‘I’ll do it better when I have more time’ as the truth is, how can you be sure that that time comes? .
Only then can we be sincere to The Almighty, which means we be devoted do righteous deeds only for His sake with no other partners for Him.
With sincerity and devotion, InshaAllah, we will become the Chosen Ones that Shaithaan could not touch and thus avoid the procrastination of good deeds such as Da’wah:)
Note: This does not mean we couldn’t enjoy in this dunya and be super serious about everything. Even Our Prophet Muhammad PBUH used to joke with his companions. But as Allah Almighty said
“But seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you. And desire not corruption in the land. Indeed, Allah does not like corrupters.” 28:77
